Building Capacity in a Sustainable Meat Company

Happy Valley Meat’s mission is to create a local meat system that treats people and animals fairly and respectfully. They’ve tackled this mission by creating a supply chain of ethically raised meat from family farms in the Pennsylvania region and delivering this meat to restaurants and institutions around the northeast.
We worked with founder Dan Honig on recruiting for two important positions. The first placement (Summer 2023) was a Business Development Manager focused on growing Happy Valley’s customer base among NYC restaurants. The second placement (Spring 2024) was an Operations Manager charged with overseeing supply chain and partner relationships with an eye toward continual improvement and growth.
“Happy Valley operates like many small food businesses—with tight margins and employees who wear many hats. So it’s critical to define and describe new positions carefully,” says August Point’s Christophe Hille, who leads the firm’s recruiting practice. “Before initiating our search, we collaborated with the founder to craft each role’s title, expected salary, responsibilities and the needed background. This helped us target more specific candidates while meeting Happy Valley’s compensation budget.”
